3 Keys to being a successful freelance writer

Believe it or not, I don’t rank talent at the top – at least not writing talent. I think there are a lot of great writers who don’t get published and a lot of good/average writers who do. I’m not the world’s best writer. I’ve never even taken a journalism class. But I can market the heck out of my stuff. So, in my opinion, the top three are:

1. Ability to stay organized

2. Ability to market your work

3. Resiliency

 

My dad once said to me, you have the best luck when it comes to writing. I said, “Luck has nothing to do with it!” (Meaning I am always busting my butt to get new clients, book deals, etc.) But I read this quote that said something like, “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.” And I think that fits me perfectly. So yes, I guess I am lucky. ; )
