Small media company needs creative fiction writers

NOTE from Wendy: This ad was on Craigslist.org. Please send submissions to THEIR email, not mine:

Is this a cattle call? Yes, it is. Don’t let that scare you away from attempting to secure a position on our writing staff. We are a small company that specializes in re-writes, editing, polishing, and fiction compilations. We are in need of two (2) temp staff writers for our creative fiction department. It is impossible to outline our ideal applicant, because in the end we are looking for a voice that matches our needs, and the best way to hear that voice is to have interested parties submit writing examples.

So if you are interested, this is what we need to gauge your fit with us.

Write a fiction scene with the following information:

POV is a female, middle aged, successful business woman in the NYC area that is a witch to work with. She has plans today, but she is going to be interrupted with some bad news. No first person narrative.

That is it. You decide the rest. There are no requirements or limits on word count or genre. It must be original work, by you. Please include contact information at the beginning of the scene. Remember, this is not to be published, this is a job interview. You retain all copyright. Please place work in body of email, we are not going to be opening strange attachments from people we have yet to meet.

  • it’s NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests
  • Compensation: pay will a base plus word count bonus on assignments
