We’re making a book just for Canadians about everything winter. Tales of Canadian winters are notorious! Whether you live in Canada or you are an expat living elsewhere, we want your stories and poems about those long winter months and how you made the most of them — from the east coast to the west coast; from city living to rural living.

We want true stories that will show our readers how you embraced and made the most of challenging or amusing winter situations. Tell us success stories about coping with the weather or disaster stories about how things went wrong. And keep that Canadian spelling in your computer, eh?

Here are some examples of what we are looking for, but we know you can think of many more topics:

Hockey
The support of family during the long dark months
Friendships created out of the cold days and nights
Driving in the winter
Dressing for the weather
Hockey, ice fishing, skiing, tobogganing, sledding, skating, camping, snow shoeing, curling… all winter sports
Best winter foods and events
Shoveling the driveway; de-icing the car
Christmas and holiday traditions
Hockey
Remember, we do not like “as told to” stories. Please write in the first person about yourself or someone close to you. If you ghostwrite a story for someone else we will list his or her name as the author. If a story was previously published, we will probably not use it unless it ran in a small circulation venue. Let us know where the story was previously published in the “Comments” section of the submission form. If the story was published in a past Chicken Soup for the Soul book, please do not submit it.

If your story or poem is chosen, you will be a published author and your bio will be printed in the book if you so choose. You will also receive a check for U.S. $200 and 10 free copies of your book, worth more than $100. You will retain the copyright for your story and you will retain the right to resell it.
