Thanks for the email. I get this type of question a lot so hopefully you don’t mind if I answer on here so others can read it.

Start by getting “The Christian Writers’ Market Guide 2011.” It’s chock full of markets to sell your work and explanations of how to go about it. Your best bet will be to start with the small Christian literary-type magazines, anthologies (like Chicken Soup for the Soul) and contests. Many of the larger publications require that you have experience/published clips, so you’ll likely need to build your portfolio by getting published with the lesser-known markets first.

Don’t ever pay any “reading fees” (entry fees for contests are acceptable).

You can also build your clips by offering to write for your church newsletter or other local/regional publications.
